A Family in Crisis
In early 2023, Talita Rossi was diagnosed with breast cancer in Brazil. After a bilateral mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation, the family hoped for recovery. By late 2025, a PET/CT scan revealed the cancer had metastasized to bones throughout her body — skull, spine, pelvis, hips, and both femurs. The disease is terminal.
Her brother, Thiago Rossi, an American Airlines flight attendant based at DFW with nine years of service, has become the sole financial provider for the entire family. Their mother, Sonia, is a cancer survivor unable to work after 13+ surgeries. Their father, Lazaro, suffers from a severe spinal injury. Both parents are now full-time caregivers.
Over the past 12 months, Thiago has transferred over $18,107 to Brazil for Talita's care while simultaneously maintaining dual housing in Los Angeles and Dallas, paying for health insurance that denies critical treatments, and funding therapy for his parents. The family's credit cards are maxed out. He cannot pay his own rent in full.
"Every transfer I've made — every dollar sent to Brazil — was an act of love and desperation."
— Thiago Rossi, Financial Hardship Narrative Statement
